Lab
Apps, design systems and product concepts, planned, designed and built from the first wireframe to the last screen. Every screen opens at full size.
Taken from grey wireframes through to a finished product and then a dark mode. Search, company pages, applications, messages and the profile all had to sit inside one layout while each of them wanted a different amount of room, and settling that argument is most of the work here.
Drawn for the iPad from the first wireframe, because a house has more switches than a phone screen can hold. Cameras, lights, climate and music all stay in reach without opening a menu. The television control came later and kept the keypad and the D-pad, because that is still how people use a television.
Sign-up, login, payments and two kinds of navigation, all built from one set of rules. Starting with the awkward screens is the only honest test of a system: if the payment form and the login both come out right, everything easier will too.
The app came first. The web version had to earn its extra width, which mostly meant showing more of the episode and less of the chrome. The player stays put at the bottom and the browsing happens around it.
Cards, stat tiles, permission lists, media controls and the small project-management pieces that never get designed properly because they are always somebody's afternoon.
Light and dark drawn side by side rather than one after the other. Do it the other way round and the second theme always comes out looking like a setting.
Booking is four questions: who, what, when, and is it worth it. The design is mostly about not making you hold all four at once.
Profile and gallery, in both themes. Redesigning something everybody already knows is an unfair brief: any change has to look better on the first glance, because nobody gives it a second.
